He removes kings and raises
up kings Daniel 2:21 (NKJV)
We are to
obey the governing authorities, according to Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For
there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are
appointed by God. Therefore whoever
resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will
bring judgment on themselves.
So, if God
raised up a Hitler, then we must obey.
Right?
Maybe one
could distinguish “authority” from the ruler.
The authority is from God, but not the ruler. Yet Daniel says that God “raises up kings.”
If God did raise up a Hitler, it does not mean
the evil a Hitler does is not his own.
It does not
mean one must submit to the evil.
Some rulers
go beyond their purpose; they step beyond the role government was intended to
have, or what God raised them up to do.
Zechariah 1.
15 I am exceedingly
angry with the nations at
ease; For I was a
little angry , And they helped--[but] with evil [intent].
The nations
helped in the judgment of Israel—whom God was angry with, "The Lord has been very angry with your
fathers” (Zechariah 1:2)-- but the nations went too far.
In the third year of the
reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to
Jerusalem and besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah
into his hand, Daniel 1:1-2a
Hitler as a leader
went too far.
His rise to
power may very well had been a result of
where Germany had gone culturally and spiritually. Of course, the treaty of Versailles with
it’s impossible demands did not help matters.
Hitler’s rise and acceptance revealed the state of the nation. The state of the nation and the Church in
Germany was revealed.
Did not
Daniel and his friends refused to obey the authority with reference to worship?
"There are certain
Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you.
They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set
up." Daniel 3:12
“Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no
need to answer you in this matter.
"If that [is] [the] [case], our God whom we serve is able to
deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver [us] from your
hand, O king. "But if not, let it
be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship
the gold image which you have set up." Daniel 3:16-18
Though God raised up Nebuchadnezzar over Babylon and gave
him authority over Israel, Daniel’s 3 friends did not obey the king and
authority in matters of their faith.
They would be subject to the consequences of that authority of the King,
but they were correct in this particular matter to disobey. God’s intervention was pen vindication of
their disobedience, though not everyone who rightly disobeys authority for their
faith and the truth will experience such deliverance.
